Spotting Matt’s while driving up Cedar Avenue, first time visitors could be forgiven for mistaking the place for just another dive. Stepping inside the narrow, dimly lit bar isn’t likely to dispel that notion, but the aroma from the grill certainly should. There’s a reason this Powderhorn Park staple has gained a fervent following in its 50-year history, and it’s known as the Jucy Lucy (spelled just like that, thank you). Burgers at Matt’s are served thick, hot and stuffed with tangy cheese and various other fillings, with homemade fries on the side. Many of the bar’s original fixtures and decorations are still in place, enhancing the old-time ambiance.
