Barrio, the newest marriage of drinks and dining on Nicollet Avenue, is from the owners of local superstar dining spot La Belle Vie, and offers a good selection of Latin food, an extensive selection of tequilas and several unique drinks on the menu. But be careful—you get what you pay for with fancy liquor, and at Barrio you can end up paying quite a bit. All the food at Barrio is either good or great, but if you're hungry, go big or continue to go hungry.

I stopped in here for a beer and one of the happy hour tacos (steak/poblano peppers was great). I loved the atmosphere of Barrio. If I were to design a bar it would look a lot like this one with the funky lighting--the marionettes are a nice touch too. It's chic but still cozy. I'm not a big fan of tequila but this place is a tequila drinkers dream. There is a library-style ladder just to get to all of the bottles stacked up on floor to ceiling shelves behind the bar. And the bartenders were extremely helpful and friendly. I eavesdropped on one of the bartenders to a couple ordering some new tequilas and she seemed to know everything about it.
