Minneapolis isn't known for its barbecue, but Market Bar-B-Que could put this town on the map. For over fifty years, it's been serving flavorful, pit-smoked ribs and corn bread to hungry crowds of Yankees. Once known as the “Sardi's of Minneapolis” for its ability to lure actors to late-night dinners, today Market Bar-Be-Que is a beloved institution that backs up its reputation with authentic barbecued delights.

My family and I went to Market BBQ as first-timers after the Holidazzle. With 6 people in our group, there was a lot of variety in our choices and there were raves all around. We started with onion rings and the oink-oink platter. The onion rings are to die for! The batter is crisp, not crunchy and slightly moist, not greasy. They were perfect. The potato skins were also great, the rest of the platter (mozz sticks, calamari, etc.) were pretty standard...but still delicious. For entrees, the boys of the group (3) split the whole rack of pork spare ribs. There were definitely enough for 3 with sides (toast, the BEST coleslaw EVER!, and fries). They loved the ribs but wished there was a little more meat on those bones. The rest of the group had chicken sandwiches (so tender and perfectly spiced) and salmon - weird I know at a BBQ joint but good to try something a little out of the ordinary. It was good, not great, but very well cooked. Oh yes, and we tried the Big Squealer. It is an extremely potent rum punch. It's like a sweeter version of a long island ice tea and you definitely need to share the drink! Overall, this is a fantastic restaurant that everyone needs to try. It feels down home but special. There's definitely some magic in that place!
Market Bar B Que has the best flavor and authentic bar b que in the Twin Cities. I have been going there since I was a kid, and our entire family thinks it is the best around. Their ribs are outstanding, and their new smoke jumbo chicken wings are the best chicken wings I have ever tasted. If you haven't tried them yet, you must. You will not be dissapointed. They have an old time atmosphere, that can't be duplicated by the chain restaurants.
This place has been around for over 60 years, they know what their doing! Pit smoked meat perfectly cured over hardwood, so good it doesn't need sauce. Great homemade onion rings and creamy cole slaw add to a wonderful meal. There is a full bar and parking, the walls are covered with celebs who have dined there, I see why.
