Gandhi Mahal
Type: Restaurant
The lavishly decorated Gandhi Mahal, occupies a small storefront on the side-street by Midori's and serves a myriad of classic Indian dishes. The restaurant recommends starting the meal with a bowl of soup, and after trying the lentil variety, we do, too. The menu is affordable, so it's not hard to also start off with an appetizer, and follow-up with several classic Indian dishes.

The great food and service cannot be matched.
We love Indian food and were sad when our favorite Indian restaurant in Uptown closed. Three months ago we discovered Gandhi Mahal when attempting to eat at a restaurant across the street that happened to be closed. Fortunately for us, we found the best Indian food we have ever had. We've been to the buffet several times, and tonight had dinner for the first time to celebrate my husband's birthday. You must try this restaurant. The prices are reasonable, the service is fantastic, and the food is simply amazing. Plus, the owners are active in the neighborhood and are dedicated to gardening and buying locally. Thank you, Gandhi Mahal!
Aside from my grandma's house, this place is THE best for Indian food. The lunch buffet is a great deal (under $10) with tons of options. I love the Tandoori Chicken Masala and every kind of dal and veggie dish I've had on the buffet. Sometimes they also bring out fresh naan right to the table when it comes out of the tandoori oven. I've also been here for dinner and it's great because you can get any kind of meat with any of the entrees (chicken, beef, lamb, goat, seafood). As far as the spice levels, it's not for the faint of tongue. They warn you that spicy means spicy and they aren't lying. Gandhi Mahal also has a really great atmosphere. They have live music sometimes. And at any given time one of the waiters will just hang out behind the lassi bar and play drums along with the sitar-heavy music.
